Li entered the PhD program in Cinema and Media Studies in 2019. His research, bouncing between media and environment, explores energy humanities through the approaches in media studies. He is also interested in topics in design, historiography of cinema, and social justice. Besides his work in the CMS department, he is enrolled in the graduate certificate of STSS (Science, Technology, and Society Studies) at UW.
