7th Triennial Conference of the Association for Latin American Art

ALAA fosters scholarly and community conversations that guide the direction of research, teaching, and criticism in the field of Latin American and Latinx art. An affiliated society of the College Art Association, its triennial conference brings together scholars working across pre-contact, colonial, modern, and contemporary Latin American and Latinx art. Now in its 7th iteration, this year’s conference is titled Reclamations: The Afro-Asian-Native Turn in the Arts of Latin America. Moving beyond monolithic and Eurocentric approaches to art history and visual culture, the theme foregrounds the counternarratives, re-framings, and strategies that reclaim minoritized subjectivities in the art of the Americas. Panelists will think through issues of place and identity in the global context, with topics focusing on Indigeneity, migration, diaspora, worldmaking, and ancestrality.

The 7th triennial conference will be hosted at the Alder Hall auditorium at University of Washington from October 8-11, 2026.
