This microseminar anticipates Katherine McKittrick’s Katz Distinguished Lecture in the Humanities, Fall 2023. In preparation for this lecture and visit, we will be reading select works of both McKittrick and Sylvia Wynter, a Jamaican critic with whose works McKittrick is in dialogue. Our readings will begin with their contemporary conversations and end with selections from McKittrick’s Dear Science to interrogate our understandings of gender, race, and cultural geography, and how these concepts relate both with each other and are permeated by our understandings of what it means to be ‘human’ in a post-slavery world. This one (1) credit course is open to graduate students.
