Society of Scholars
The Society of Scholars is an intellectual community of humanists of diverse generations, academic ranks, and departmental affiliations who contribute to and learn from one another’s work. Each year, approximately eight faculty and three dissertation research fellowships support members of the Society of Scholars. Scholars in year-long residence at the University of Washington may be invited to participate as well. The group meets biweekly throughout the year to discuss their research in progress.

Comics and Chicanx Art (1960-1980)
This project examines the intersection of comics and comics iconography (e.g. superheroes) in Chicanx Art of the Chicanismo era of the 1960s and 1970s, by art collectives such as Con Safos, Asco, Mechanismo, Self-Help Graphics & Art, Los Four and the Royal Chicano Airforce. I approach this highly politicized art, made to assail the status quo of ethnicity and class in America and to cheer on a social revolution, chiefly through an Art History and Comics Studies lens.
