Ungsan Kim us an Assistant Professor of Asian Cinema jointly appointed in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures and the Department of Film, Television, and Media. His research interests and specialization span across Korean cinema, contemporary Vietnamese and Chinese language cinema, inter-Asian cinema, experimental cinema, popular cultures of East Asia, and queer theory.

With substantive interests in cinematic temporality and spatiality, he is currently doing research on how contemporary queer Asian cinema has been shaped as a politically engaged and stylistically innovative mode of production in the face of historical, social, and cultural setbacks and crises.
