Madeleine Yue Dong is a 2022-2023 Society of Scholars Fellow.

She is Vincent Y. C. Shih Professor of Chinese History and China Studies in the Jackson School of International Studies and the Department of History at the University of Washington, Seattle. Her research focuses on social and cultural history of modern China.

She is the author of Republican Beijing: The City and Its Histories, 1911-1937 (UC Press, 2003), the editor of Beyond Area Studies: Major Western Scholarship on Modern Chinese History (Beijing: CASS Press, 2013), and co-editor of Everyday Modernity in China (UW Press, 2006) and The Modern Girl Around the World: Modernity, Consumption, Globalization (Duke University Press, 2008).
