Erin McElroy is an Associate Professor of Geography at the University of Washington. Their research and teaching focus on gentrification, technology, housing justice, fascism, and racial capitalism. They explore fields including critical race and ethnic studies, feminist studies, urban studies, science and technology studies, urban geography, and digital geography. McElroy is cofounder of the Anti-Eviction Mapping Project and runs the Anti-Eviction Lab here at UW. Their most recent book, Silicon Valley Imperialism: Techno Fantasies and Frictions in Postsocialist Times was published in 2024 with Duke University Press. 

As a 2026 Summer Faculty Fellow, McElroy is working on their book project "Technofeudal Fever Dreams: Silicon Fiefdoms, Doom Loop Dystopics, and the Urban Anxieties of Empire." They will study the racial capitalist and imperial logics behind an emergent urbanism in which dozens of spaces are being captured by Silicon Valley investors with visions of creating exclusive enclaves. As an interdisciplinary and transnational project, the project draws upon American studies, urban and digital geography, urban studies, STS, and ethnic studies.
