Science, Technology & Society Studies certificate logo

An interdisciplinary graduate certificate program in Science, Technology & Society Studies (STSS) welcomes its first cohort in the 2015-16 academic year, with 14 students from eight departments beginning the new program. This 18-credit program of study, dedicated to examining the intellectual, material, and social enterprises of science and technology in all their complexity, was developed over several years by faculty affiliated with UW’s Science Studies Network (SSNet).

The graduate certificate program begins its first year with Simpson Center funding to facilitate initial research and teaching efforts. This includes one-day collaborative exchange with faculty from the University of British Columbia’s Science & Technology Studies graduate program, as well as support for the initial offering of the core microseminar in Fall 2015, STSS 591: Science, Technology & Society Studies in Action, and administrative assistance for other inaugural year undertakings.
