Relational Memory Studies

This cluster explores the application of relational, interdisciplinary methodologies to the study of cultural memory and its contestation at the nexus of nationalism, colonialism, and historical catastrophes. Invited lectures and colloquia of UW scholars support the development of a working group that promotes research and teaching in cultural memory studies at UW. During the 2025-2026 academic year, the project's programming focused on relational memory in and around Europe with an eye to this regions' multiple global entanglements. In the current year, they will expand programming to explore Southwest Asia, North Africa, and beyond. They will also convene two panels to connect and showcase faculty and graduate students working in cultural memory studies across the university.
