Reuven Pinnata was born and raised in Surabaya, Indonesia and is currently a doctoral candidate in the English Department at the University of Washington, Seattle.

His research focuses on Indonesian and Dutch East Indies literature and Marxist aesthetics, and he teaches composition to undergraduate students. Most recently, he is the recipient of the 2023-2024 Christopher J. Grorud Endowed Memorial Fellowship.
