Nathanael Elias Mengist is a doctoral student in Human Centered Design and Engineering at the University of Washington. Nat has a background in community gardening and nonprofit leadership. He is interested in the power dynamics and belief structures operating in socio-technical systems, with an emphasis on the historiography of alchemy and its "more-than-western" origins. Nat has published in the journals Magic, Ritual, and Witchcraft, Art, Design, & Communication in Higher Education, and the Companion Publication of the 2023 ACM Designing Interactive Systems Conference.
