As the Simpson Center’s Administrator, Matthew Unruh oversees general operations and manages budgets and human resources. He works with faculty members leading funded projects on budget matters and collaborates with staff on strategic planning and management of funding cycles.
Matthew holds a BA in International Studies, with a focus on Europe, and a minor in Political Theory from the University of Washington, as well as an MA in Politics, International Studies, and Philosophy from The Queens University Belfast. Most recently, he served as Administrative Specialist for Research and Infrastructure in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington. In that role, among other major projects, he led the digitization and modernization of compliance processes to streamline workflows for the administrative staff.
Outside of his work at UW, he volunteers at the Burke Museum as a Gallery SPARK, at the Seattle Opera as an Usher, and with Seattle City Parks and Recreation in park reclamation. He is passionate about world history, and has wide-ranging intellectual interests in the humanities.
