As Program and Events Manager, Caitlin Palo works with faculty to coordinate the material and logistical needs for bringing together scholars from on and off-campus. This includes consulting with faculty hosts to determine the ideal format for engaging events, including large-scale lectures in-person or on zoom, collaborative working groups, hands-on workshops, small-group conversational lunches, or other kinds of events. She also supports the logistics of room reservations, catering, flights, and hotels for funded projects and manages the co-sponsored events calendar.

Caitlin comes to the Simpson Center after nearly a decade in higher education—first as a graduate student and instructor, and then additionally as an administrator, with experience directing cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary writing centers and writing programs. 

She received a Ph.D. in English from UW in August 2020. Her dissertation examined the use of private letters as source material for published works that imagine new public relationships to history and to each other at pivotal political moments in 18th century Britain and 20th century America. Central authors in her study include Alexander Pope, Mary Wortley Montagu, Mary Wollstonecraft, Dodie Bellamy and other writers of the New Narrative School.

Caitlin trains regularly in Kung Fu, is an avid user of the Seattle Public Library’s cookbook holdings, and a novice community gardener.
