Reflections on Architecture and the Public Realm: The World Trade Center 1964-2004

Anthony Vidler is a historian and critic of modern and contemporary architecture, specializing in French architecture from the Enlightenment to the present. He has published several works, including, most recently, Warped Space: Architecture and Anxiety in Modern Culture in 2002, The Architectural Uncanny: Essays in the Modern Unhomely in 1992. He is currently at work on Contemporary Architecture: Theories and Design 1968-2000, forthcoming from Oxford University Press. He is also a frequent contributor to The New York Times, Bomb, Artforum International, and The Times Literary Supplement.

In this lecture, Vidler shares his historical and theoretical insights concerning the complex and difficult relationships between politics, social thought, and architectural design.
