A series of events in honor of renowned "Godmother of Iranian Cinema"
The Simpson Center for the Humanities is proud to co-sponsor the “Teller of Truth: Women, Cinema, Freedom” series of events coordinated by the University of Washington’s Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures in honor of renowned “Godmother of Iranian cinema” Rakhshan Bani-Eʿtemad. One of Iran’s most celebrated filmmakers, Rakhshan Bani-Eʿtemad has made wide-ranging and courageous films that tackle issues such as poverty, addiction, and misogyny. In addition to making successful feature films such as Under the Skin of the City (2001), which won the special jury award at the Seattle International Film Festival, Bani-Eʿtemad has also made acclaimed documentaries. - Film Screening of "Under the Skin of the City" and Director Q&A. Free but registration required. Henry Art Gallery, Thursday, Nov. 2, 5 - 7 pm.
- Film Screening: "Mainline," Introduced by Bahar Saadat. Followed by Q&A with the director. Event in Persian. Free open to the public. UW Bothell UW2 Room 005. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, 3:30 - 6 pm
- Screenwriting Workshop: Cinematic Narratives Based on Personal Experience. Workshop in Persian. Free but registration required. Admission on a first come, first serve basis. UW Bothell UW2 Room 031. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, 11 am - 2 pm.
