Through her own engaging personal travel stories, Taranath provides us with thought-provoking questions and tools to grapple with our discomfort and navigate differences with accountability and connection.

Congratulations to Dr. Anu Taranath (CHID and English), whose book Beyond Guilt Trips: Mindful Travel in an Unequal World (Between the Lines Press 2019) was selected as a Finalist for both the Foreward INDIES Book of the Year Award and the UK's Wishing Shelf Book Awards.

In Beyond Guilt Trips: Mindful Travel in an Unequal World, Taranath explores how traveling abroad can broaden perspectives, while it can also be deeply unsettling, confusing, and discomforting as travelers find themselves unsure about how to think or speak about the differences in race or culture they find, even though these differences might have fueled their desire to travel in the first place. Through her own engaging personal travel stories, Taranath provides us with thought-provoking questions and tools to grapple with our discomfort and navigate differences with accountability and connection.

Taranath was also recently interviewed about her book in The Daily’s regular column, The Travel Journal.
