Race Across the Disciplines
This collaboration explores the intellectual and political possibilities opened up by critical study of race across and beyond traditional academic disciplines. It examines how previous approaches to the study of race have tended to normalize and reproduce the western citizen-subject and the transatlantic nation-state. Through study of the “afterlife of slavery” and the “transpacific” as both epistemological critiques and alternative hermeneutics, this collaboration seeks to reinvigorate familiar modes of critical race study and to interrogate dominant notions of time and space. In so doing it advances alternative transdisciplinary research practices and methods more adequate to materialist study of race in the contemporary university.
