American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music

American Sabor:
Latinos in U.S. Popular Music

Year of Funding:
American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music

This collaboration focuses on the writing and publication of a book that will extend the reach and impact of the travelling museum exhibit by the same name, which originated as a project between the University of Washington and the Experience Music Project.

Through the experience of listening to and learning about music, American Sabor provides a uniquely compelling engagement with Latino culture and history—a cultural encounter that is drawing an expanding public, particularly as the Latino population in the U.S. grows and forces a reexamination of social and political challenges, such as immigration.

Project Goals

The curators of the exhibit and the authors of the forthcoming collection seek to use a book of the same title to present different ways of knowing, to disseminate additional research, and to promote this ongoing public humanities project which the Simpson Center has supported since its inception.
