Jonathan Hiskes

HiskesJon Hiskes is the Simpson Center’s Communications Director. He works with faculty and students to promote their scholarship through digital and print channels.

Before joining the Simpson Center, Jon was the lead communications writer at Bastyr University, writing about the intersection of science and natural medicine. He previously worked as a climate-change reporter at Grist and Sustainable Industries, reporting from United Nations climate talks, Canadian tar sands, tidal-energy test sites, and innovative urban development projects. Before that, he covered rural economies and culture for the Brown County (Indiana) Democrat. He has an MA in Journalism from Indiana University and a BA in English from Calvin College.

Jon's writing has appeared in The Sun, Image, River Teeth, The Guardian, Mother Jones, The Seattle Review of Books, Books & Culture, Crosscut, Puget Sound Business Journal, the Indianapolis Business Journal, and elsewhere.
