Simpson Center Says “Thank You!” to UW Faculty and Staff Donors

The Simpson Center would like to extend a big “thank you!” to all UW faculty and staff who have donated toward the Digital Humanities Commons since Spring 2011.

In January 2009 the Simpson Center received a pledge and a challenge from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).  In the form of a Challenge Grant, the NEH promised $625,000 towards the establishment of a Digital Humanities Commons, IF the Simpson Center could raise 3:1 matching funds in the amount of $1,875,000, by July 2013. The funds would endow in perpetuity an annual summer program of UW faculty and graduate student fellowships in the digital humanities, to begin Summer 2013.

In March and June 2011, the Simpson Center asked faculty and staff to help build the Digital Humanities Commons through individual donations. Over forty donors have responded, moving the Center closer toward its fundraising goal. Such generous gifts demonstrate to the NEH the broad support for and commitment to this project from the Center’s home base. As of October 2011, the Simpson Center has $419,500 left to raise.
