Monica Cohn

CohnAs the Simpson Center’s Administrator, Monica Cohn oversees general operations and manages budgets and human resources. She works with faculty members leading funded projects on budget matters and collaborates with staff on strategic planning and management of funding cycles.

Monica has long loved the liberal arts. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Washington in history with a minor in China studies. She earned a master’s degree and conducted doctoral work in Asian studies at Cornell University, where she is also ABD. Her fields included early Chinese history and literature, art and archaeology with an emphasis on early writing systems, and Modern China. Monica was an instructor at Cornell, teaching writing, art and archaeology, Chinese history and literature, and classical Chinese.

After a move back to Seattle, Monica began working in the Department of Asian Languages & Literature at the UW. She joined the College of Arts & Sciences Shared Services staff in 2011 and moved to Procurement Services in 2014. She worked as Change Management Analyst on the transition to the UW's payroll system before moving to the Simpson Center in 2017.
